Yesterday on our way home from my mother-in-law’s house, the car in front of us stalled just as it reached the front of the line at the three-way stop sign. I knew my husband would help. He put our car in park, put the hazards on, and jumped out of the car. He was joined by two other men who had also gotten out of their cars. Two young men joined them. Quickly the five men pushed the car out of the intersection. The line of cars from all directions had backed up. People waited patiently and soon they were on their way because of the quick help of the folks around.
Last week was a heavy week — several loved ones received difficult news. But somehow this spontaneous caring for someone else — a stranger— cheered my heavy heart. Not only did they get his car out of the way, they made sure he had a way to get home if he couldn’t get his car started. “They were taking care of him,” said my husband.

This brightened my day. People caring for people.
The loved ones in my life also have people circling around them, caring for them. Their difficulties are much larger than a stalled vehicle and are not as easily solved. But they are not alone. People care and will walk the long road with them. In the midst of it all — I saw this example of spontaneous caring. It cheered my heart — oh life is still heavy — but there are still pieces & moments of goodness still woven through the tapestry of life. I’m grateful.
How about you? How has your week been? Has kindness or beauty brightened your week?
