I tried to capture the moon in the picture. To my eye it was full and bright. To the camera it was faint. In a few of my photos you can’t see the moon at all. You can barely see it in this one.
And isn’t this true with other things in life as well— the event, the memory, the moment is so vibrant at the time. It is so rich and full that the photo doesn’t do it justice.
Some moments are remembered well; others flit away. I often take pictures to remember the moments so they don’t fade away. So I can dwell on the joy in my life.
Typically my journals are the places I record the sorrow and the grapplings of my soul. When I’m happy, I find it harder to write. So I take pictures instead.
But sometimes the photo is faded to begin with. Like yesterday when my husband and I stood next to each other trying to capture the moon “on film.”
It reminds me that some moments aren’t meant to be captured. Some moments are just that — a moment. Here. And then gone.
