5 Tidbits of Trivia About Kathleen

In honor of my birthday — which was three days ago — here are five tidbits of trivia about me (in no particular order):

I spent the last 20 years educating all four of my children at home. It was a great fit for our family.  I loved it (not every minute of every day — that’s not real life — but overall). I think I will always miss the days of ‘all family together.’

I am the youngest of five in my family and the oldest of four in-laws on my husband’s side of the family. On one side of the family we have the oldest grandchild and on the other we have the youngest.

21 people at my daughter’s college graduation. What coming from a large family looks like.

My running ‘career’ started one night when my oldest brother invited me to run with him. Soon after I joined the high school cross country team. I received the Most Improved Runner award and lettered in my senior year. I also lettered in track.  Since then, I have run one full marathon — 26.2 miles of fun — by following a book I found at the library titled The Non-Runner’s Marathon Trainer.  I’ve also run five half-marathons.

Before the last half marathon that I ran

Two notable races come to mind. There was the half-marathon where three of us: Kip, Sophie, and I ran in the rain for 98% of the time. After we crossed the finish line, the sun came out and it didn’t rain a single drop for the rest of the day. The other notable race was the time I ran on a trail in the forest in the dark . I ran with a flashlight, drank pickle juice, and cried while the race director walked beside me for a bit during that half-marathon. All of which were firsts for me during that race which incidentally was also my last half-marathon.

Directing club

I directed a competitive Speech and Debate club for four years which included  directing two speech and debate tournaments. That season challenged me in ways I never expected. It was an all-encompassing time where my gifts and talents came alive while I poured into the lives of students.

A writing day at the library

If you’ve been around here at all (here you are right now! welcome!), you know that I write in journals, on social media, and on my website. I have written 5 Bible studies (Colossians, II Timothy, II Corinthians, Ephesians, Mark, and am currently working on Acts).  I’ve written over 110,000 words in my first novel and have kept 80,000 of them (which is close to how many is needed for a 300-page novel) but the story isn’t finished yet. I keep thinking I’m almost done; I can see the light at the end of the tunnel but it’s further away than I realized. But as another writer said, “As long as you can see the light, you’ll get there.”
